Very large and very small numbers are sometimes displayed in scientific, or e notation. Scientific notation writes a number as an integer between 1 and 10 multiplied by the power of 10. For example, 234,000 could be written in scientific notation as 2.34 * 100,000, or 2.34 * 10^5, or 2.34e+5.
